THE COIL inside this glowplug is HIGHLY CATALYTIC but not super-catalytic. It is designed for 2 -stroke ignition but it also has the capacity to evaporate globules of fuel that are thrown at it due to the frequent and rapid throttle changes associated with 3D-flying.
The body of the plug has an extended nose (like a 4-stroke) as it helps to limit the quantity of fuel globules finding their way into the plug chamber. This same extended nose helps make the 3D-Plug a perfect solution to the running problems associated with INVERTED 2-STROKE ENGIINES: It stops liquid fuel build-up running into the plug chamber.
Firstly, the 3D-Plug makes the engine easy to set as it is tolerant of a broad range of needle settings. Secondly, it gives a very reliable tickover even when set for a low rpm. Thirdly, the pick-up from idle is rapid and strong. Fourthly, this strong throttle response is there throughout the rev range. Fifthly, this exhilarating performance is always available whether the engine is upright, inverted, nose-up or nose-down.
Some engine manufacturers set up their engines with low compression ratios while others use quite high ratios. The compression ratio tends to determine the percentages of nitro that can be used. The 3D-Plug will perform beautifully with nitro percentages of 5-25% so long as they are within the manufacturers recommendations for the engine.
