O Gauge ready to run model locomotive DCC Ready
The Great Western Railway already operated a large number of 0-6-0 tank locos from a variety of different sources, however many were reaching the ends of their useful life so Charles Collett (Chief Mechanical Engineer of the GWR) developed the 57xx to become a standard pannier tank locomotive).
863 of this class of locomotive were built for the GWR between 1929 and 1950. Initially designed for light goods and shunting, the 57xx class were also useful for passenger services.
